Bottega Veneta opened its Summer 2026 season with a collection that honored the past while signaling new beginnings. Louise Trotter drew from the workshop spirit that has defined the house since 1966, framing her vision through Italian craftsmanship. “I like that the ‘Bottega’ is a workshop, one with a long and multifaceted history in Italy,” she said. “It’s where the hand and the heart become one.” Inspiration came from Venice, New York, and Milan, shaping clothes rooted in tradition yet firmly present. Trotter also acknowledged Laura Braggion, the brand’s first female creative lead, and revisited Renzo Zengiaro’s revolutionary “soft functionality” Intrecciato bags, reinterpreted for today.

Summer-weight tailoring sat alongside trenches in supple Nappa leather and gowns lined in cotton. Accessories carried the story forward: icons like the Lauren, the Knot, and the Cabat resurfaced in new forms, while fresh designs, the Squash, the elongated Framed Tote, and the Crafty Basket, showcased artisanal innovation.

Marking the house’s 60th anniversary, Trotter collaborated with British artist and director Steve McQueen on the soundtrack ’66 – ’76. The mix combined Nina Simone and David Bowie’s versions of Wild Is the Wind, edited into a duet McQueen called “an aural Intrecciato.” For Trotter, Intrecciato remains the house’s metaphor: “It is two different strips woven together that become stronger,” she explained.
