In a discussion with DSCENE Editor Katarina Doric, Sumner shares insights into the filming challenges and epiphanies, his personal ties to Italy, and the artistic journey of bringing Freddie Miles to life. Reflecting on the casting process, Sumner remarks, “I interpreted Freddie as I envisioned him, not as the loud American described in the script. My portrayal was different.” This interpretation won over both the casting director and the director. Sumner also expresses the deep personal connection he felt filming in Rome, stating, “Living in an apartment in Trastevere made me feel truly at home for the first time. Italy brings out a different side of me.” This  sense of belonging infused the project with an authentic feel, enhancing Sumner’s performance.
