MMSCENE Magazine’s July 2025 cover story features Alex Sampson, a Canadian singer-songwriter whose rise began in the small town of Atikokan, Ontario. Early videos of original songs and covers introduced his voice to a growing online audience, but it was his 2024 America’s Got Talent appearance that placed him firmly in the public eye.
His second EP, Hopeless Romantic, followed soon after, offering a mix of pop ballads rooted in love, heartbreak, and hope. On tour, he joined Alexander Stewart for the Homecoming Tour and later traveled the U.S. with Jamie Miller.
Sampson’s new single Growing Pains arrives July 18, followed by a live performance at Hudson Yards in New York on July 23 as part of the Summer Concert Series at the Wells Fargo Stage.
The cover story, lensed by fashion photographer Kevin Sikorski, features styling by Fern Legadoe and grooming by Blondie Gamon. In an exclusive interview with our editor Katarina Djoric, he describes songwriting as his most natural form of expression. For him, lyrics often begin as raw thoughts, written or spoken in the studio, before taking shape as full songs.
He credits his fans with influencing much of his creative direction. Whether through social media or live shows, their feedback plays a central role in how he approaches each release. He often writes with their experience in mind, choosing lyrics and melodies that invite connection, especially onstage. That connection became real for him the first time he heard his music in public, during a casual moment at the gym. It was unexpected but affirming, a quiet reminder of how far his music had traveled.
Sampson also discusses his evolving sound. He’s experimented with pop rock and vintage influences, but says his upcoming EP, set to release later this year, feels like his most personal work to date. Alongside the new music, he hints at a headline tour and other projects that reflect where he’s headed next.
Outside the studio, he enjoys downtime by the pool, video games, and reading. Recently, he’s started exploring cooking. One item always in his travel bag is his pocket Bible, which he says keeps him grounded while on the road.
