In 2026, longevity has shifted toward the idea of extending healthspan, the years we spend in good health, with greater attention on proactive care, recovery and science based approaches. During a recent stay in Munich, BEAUTY SCENE team visited MitoSphere Longevity Spa at Koenigshof, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Munich, to experience how that thinking translates into a hotel wellness setting.
Located inside Koenigshof in central Munich, MitoSphere is the first longevity hub of its kind in Germany. Longevity physician Dr. Alexander Auer leads the concept, which combines diagnostics, personalized programs and a menu of treatments that includes hyperbaric oxygen therapy, whole body cryotherapy, intermittent hypoxic hyperoxic training, IV infusions and photobiomodulation.
Our visit came during several packed days in Munich spent moving between art exhibitions, appointments and events. That made recovery feel particularly relevant. Instead of booking a conventional spa treatment at the end of the day, we started the morning with two of MitoSphere’s most recognizable technologies: whole body cryotherapy and red light therapy.
The cryotherapy session provided the sharpest reset. The treatment exposes the body to extremely low temperatures for a short period and forms part of MitoSphere’s broader recovery program. The experience itself feels immediate and intense, followed by a distinct sense of alertness once you step out. On a day that involved hours of walking through Munich, it offered a surprisingly effective way to switch from travel fatigue into morning mode.
We followed it with photobiomodulation, using red and near infrared light. MitoSphere incorporates the treatment with the aim of supporting cellular energy, recovery and inflammatory response. Compared with cryotherapy, the experience feels far calmer. You remain still under the light, making it an easy counterpoint to the short burst of cold that comes before it.
The combination worked particularly well for the rhythm of our trip. Starting the day with cold and red light left us feeling energized before heading back into the city, while the sessions also gave us a period of genuine downtime during an otherwise full schedule.
MitoSphere extends its approach beyond these two treatments. The hub also works with nutrition, movement science, stress management, functional medicine and performance training. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, IHHT and IV programs allow guests to build a more individualized protocol according to their goals and medical guidance.
Beauty also enters the program through Skingevity treatments developed in collaboration with Augustinus Bader, connecting the longevity concept with skin care and restorative body therapies.
What makes MitoSphere interesting within the current wellness conversation is the way it places medical and performance focused technologies inside a luxury hotel environment without turning the experience into a clinical one. For travelers arriving in Munich with packed schedules, the appeal feels straightforward: access to recovery treatments without leaving the hotel.
After several days spent running between exhibitions and appointments, that combination of cryotherapy, red light and actual rest made a convincing case for adding recovery to the itinerary rather than saving it for the end.
