Can a landscape become a fragrance? That question shaped VENTO, a limited edition collaboration between DSCENE, D’Puglia, and Osmo, translating artist Coco Brun’s Puglia, Unframed residency research into an olfactory composition. Instead of approaching perfume through a traditional creative process, the project explored how technology could interpret a place through scent. Osmo’s Olfactory Intelligence platform received Brun’s observations, collected during her May 2025 residency, and transformed them into a fragrance designed around the atmosphere of Puglia in spring.
FRAGRANCES
The project began with research instead of ingredients. Coco Brun documented the region through movement, collecting impressions from cliffs, coastal vegetation, limestone formations, olive groves, abandoned beaches, and Mediterranean flora. Her work focused on the traces a place leaves in the air rather than its visual appearance. Heat radiating from stone, dry wind moving through pines, damp limestone, sea fennel, samphire, wild herbs, floral dust, and mineral deposits became the vocabulary from which the fragrance emerged.
Rather than recreating a literal smell, the brief sought to capture the emotional memory of the landscape. The goal centered on translating atmosphere into scent, allowing technology to interpret sensory research that normally exists beyond words or photographs. Osmo processed Brun’s material through its digital scent design platform, generating a custom fragrance that reflects the changing character of Puglia’s coastline.
The resulting composition carries the name VENTO, Italian for “wind.” The fragrance opens with bright lemon, green stem, lavender, salty accords, and mineral notes that evoke coastal air moving through wild vegetation. The freshness immediately introduces movement, recalling the first impression of arriving at the shoreline where citrus, herbs, and sea spray meet under the Mediterranean sun.
Its heart develops through white floral notes, aromatic herbs, and cherry almond. The floral character remains restrained, allowing herbal nuances to maintain the connection to the surrounding landscape while a gentle sweetness rises through the composition. The effect mirrors the contrast between rugged limestone cliffs and delicate spring blossoms scattered across the coast.
The base settles into powdery accords, sweet balsamic warmth, and mineral notes. Resin, sun warmed stone, salt carried by the wind, and the lingering texture of coastal air create the final impression. Instead of fading into abstraction, the fragrance preserves the sensation of standing beside the Adriatic as heat settles across rock and vegetation.
VENTO also reflects a broader conversation about fragrance design. Artificial intelligence increasingly supports formulation, ingredient discovery, and consumer personalization, yet Osmo approaches the technology from another direction. Its Olfactory Intelligence platform functions as a creative tool capable of interpreting sensory information that originates outside traditional perfumery. In this case, AI does not replace the artist or perfumer. It becomes a translator between research, memory, landscape, and scent.
The collaboration demonstrates how contemporary fragrance can emerge from disciplines that extend beyond perfume itself. Coco Brun’s residency research provided the conceptual foundation, DSCENE and D’Puglia framed the creative brief, and Osmo transformed those observations into an olfactory composition that exists somewhere between artistic documentation and wearable fragrance.
VENTO ultimately asks a simple question: what does a place feel like when remembered through scent? Its answer arrives through lemon carried on the wind, herbs warmed by the sun, white flowers opening beside the sea, and the mineral character of Puglia itself. The landscape remains invisible, yet every note points back to it.
VENTO made its debut during an intimate dinner at The Standard, Miami in December 2025, held during Art Basel Miami Beach. Guests experienced the fragrance within the context that inspired its creation, introducing the collaboration between Osmo, DSCENE, and D’Puglia through scent, conversation, and the residency research that gave the project its starting point.
