The much anticipated TOM FORD Ombré Leather Reserve fragrance just got its release date – August 17th. Expanding one of the house’s most recognizable fragrance signatures, the new composition is already positioned to become one of the defining luxury fragrance launches of the year, offering a more layered and expansive interpretation of the original Ombré Leather through the landscapes of the American West.
Rather than simply revisiting the familiar leather accord, Ombré Leather Reserve broadens the narrative with an immersive portrait of elevated desert terrain, rugged mountain ranges, and the natural materials that define the region. The result is a woody leather fragrance that balances raw intensity with refined craftsmanship, introducing several ingredients that make their debut within the Ombré Leather collection.
Central to the composition is a newly created deep black leather accord, an intensified expression of the fragrance’s signature identity. Built around cypriol, cistus, and pine tar, the accord delivers a richer, more textured leather impression that forms the foundation of the scent. Surrounding it is an amplified blend of woods, where smoky Texas cedarwood meets creamy sandalwood extract, while benzoin resinoid lends a soft balsamic warmth reminiscent of vanilla.
LATEST MEN’s FRAGRANCES
“Ombré Leather Reserve is an exploration of West Texas with its vast raw beauty and textured contrasts,” says perfumer Sonia Constant. She describes the fragrance as an evolution of the house’s leather signature, enriched by exclusive ScentTrek™ captures of silver juniper and pinyon wood, alongside cedarwood and dual sandalwood facets that introduce a deeper warmth and richness to the Ombré Leather story.
The fragrance also places a renewed emphasis on ingredients that evoke the distinctive character of the American Southwest. Pinyon wood, introduced for the first time in the collection, reflects the region’s expansive forests and dry mountain landscapes with its resinous warmth. Pepperwood™ extends this woody character through elegant spicy nuances accented by vetiver and olibanum, adding further dimension to the composition.
Freshness arrives through an equally distinctive selection of aromatic notes. Cypress essence introduces a crisp pine character, while black pepper accord brings vibrant spice with subtle woody undertones. Violet leaf absolute contributes a vivid green facet that recalls vegetation illuminated by the desert sun, creating a luminous contrast against the fragrance’s darker base. TOM FORD will release Ombré Leather Reserve in 10 mL, 50 mL, 100 mL, and 250 mL formats. The 250 mL decanter receives an elevated presentation with a platinum beveled plaque and cap, complemented by a black faux leather collar – a true collectors moment.
Among the fragrance’s most notable innovations is the exclusive silver juniper ScentTrek™, developed specifically for TOM FORD. Captured using headspace technology from silver juniper trees growing in the Chisos Mountains, the ingredient preserves the living scent of the plant as it naturally evolves throughout the day. The aromatic profile begins with bright, silvery freshness before revealing increasingly woody facets anchored by gentle myrrh undertones, bringing a sense of movement and realism to the composition.
The visual identity reflects the fragrance’s character, in both video and print ads. Ombré Leather Reserve is housed in a matte-black flacon with a translucent finish that echoes the tactile depth of the scent within, while platinum-toned accents evoke sunlight stretching across the vast landscapes of the American West.
