Dyson presented its latest engineering technologies in Athens, Greece, bringing together over 200 media representatives, influencers and industry guests at the Lighthouse at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. The regional event followed the global unveiling of Dyson CameraJet in Paris earlier this month and marked the introduction of the company’s first oral-care technology to guests in the region. Alongside CameraJet, Dyson presented two new additions to its Beauty portfolio, Dyson Airsmooth and Dyson Corrale CoolShine.

BEAUTY TECH

The presentation placed engineering and product development at the forefront. Guests explored the three technologies through live demonstrations, dedicated product areas and styling stations, with Dyson specialists explaining the research behind each device. Andrew Lewin, Dyson Engineer, took to the stage to discuss CameraJet and the six years of development that led to the final technology. Demetri Deacon-Jones, Global Beauty Training Lead, presented Airsmooth and Corrale CoolShine, focusing on Dyson’s continued research into airflow, heat control and hair science.

The three launches address different parts of the daily personal-care routine. CameraJet introduces imaging and machine learning to oral care, while Airsmooth develops Dyson’s airflow technology into a dedicated hot air brush. Corrale CoolShine takes another direction, combining controlled heat with an active cooling system designed specifically for straightening.

Dyson CameraJet
Brings Machine Learning to Oral Care

Dyson CameraJet marks the company’s entry into oral care, bringing imaging, machine learning, brushing technology and precision fluid dynamics into a single device. Dyson developed the technology in response to a common problem: people frequently miss the spaces between their teeth during brushing, allowing plaque to form in areas that require additional attention.

CameraJet uses an integrated 100k-pixel macro lens camera alongside Dyson’s Gap Optical Targeting machine-learning technology. The system analyzes 28 live images every second to identify, track and predict interdental gaps in real time. Within 100 milliseconds of identifying one, the device can activate a precision conical jet of mouthrinse and direct it toward the targeted area while brushing continues.

Dyson spent six years developing CameraJet, involving 661 engineers in the process and filing 38 patents. The company developed its machine-learning system with over 470,000 dental images, while CameraJet itself operates on 16 million lines of code.

“Dyson CameraJet combines a camera powered by Gap Optical Targeting, machine learning, precision fluid dynamics and advanced brushing technologies to identify gaps between teeth in real time and deliver a targeted precision jet exactly where it is needed,” explained Lewin during the Athens presentation.

Dyson Airsmooth
Develops a New Approach to the Hot Air Brush

Dyson Airsmooth introduces the company’s first dedicated hot air brush technology, designed to dry, smooth and lift hair within a single styling routine. The device applies Dyson’s experience with controlled airflow to a brush format and introduces two new bristle systems developed to manage the way hair travels through the tool.

The Anti-snag bristles help strands pass through the brush and release with reduced snagging. PivotFlex bristles, meanwhile, can flex by up to 90 degrees, responding to high-pressure airflow while creating controlled tension through the hair. Together, the two systems address the relationship between airflow, the brush and individual strands during styling.

Dyson also equips Airsmooth with intelligent heat control. The system measures temperature 100 times per second, allowing the device to maintain controlled styling conditions throughout use. The company engineered Airsmooth for straight, wavy, curly and coily hair types.

“Dyson Airsmooth brings together Dyson’s pioneering airflow technology with PivotFlex and Anti-snag bristle technology to help dry, smooth and lift hair,” said Deacon-Jones, who introduced the device before guests tested it at the dedicated styling stations.

Dyson Corrale CoolShine
Adds Active Cooling to Straightening

Dyson Corrale CoolShine focuses on what happens to hair immediately after heat application. The new styling technology combines Dyson’s existing flexing plate system with active heat extraction, introducing a removable cooling attachment designed to draw excess heat away from the hair after each pass.

Copper heat-extracting pipes sit inside the attachment and begin cooling the hair directly after the heated plates straighten it. The system gives Corrale CoolShine control over two stages of the styling process: the application of heat and the way hair subsequently cools.

Four temperature settings, 145°C, 165°C, 185°C and 210°C, allow users to adapt the tool according to hair type and the desired result. According to Dyson, Corrale CoolShine can deliver up to 29 percent less heat damage and up to 154 percent greater shine compared with untreated hair, with styles lasting for up to 24 hours.

The Athens showcase gave guests direct access to all three technologies while Dyson’s teams explained the research behind their development. From CameraJet’s real-time detection of interdental gaps to Airsmooth’s flexible bristle system and Corrale CoolShine’s active heat extraction, the presentation introduced three distinctly different applications of Dyson’s engineering research to everyday beauty and personal-care routines.
