Amouage introduces Elsewhere as the international edition of Sindbad, the perfume it created in 2025 for the Royal Opera House of Oman. The original composition accompanied the institution’s first original opera and took its name from the mythical Omani sailor at the center of the story. Amouage first offered the fragrance only in Oman. The House now releases the same formula under a new name for audiences outside the country.
FRAGRANCES
Chief Creative Officer Renaud Salmon explains that rights restrictions prevent Amouage from using the Sindbad name internationally. Elsewhere keeps the exact composition and extends its meaning beyond the original production. The title follows the hero beyond Oman and gives the fragrance a broader sense of travel, distance and return.
The opera follows Sindbad as he searches for Princess Hayat so he can earn permission from the Governor to marry his beloved. He confronts a dangerous Sorceress and discovers the Fragrance of Life, a substance that drives away evil. Sindbad rescues the Princess, brings the perfume home and marries the woman he loves. Amouage used that fictional substance as the creative foundation for Elsewhere.
Salmon asked perfumer Pierre Negrin to develop a scent that could express protection and the supernatural. Negrin approached perfume itself as an invisible source of emotion and used the opera’s magical element to guide the composition.
Elsewhere opens with honey, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, pomegranate, apricot, ginger, cardamom and pink pepper. The opening creates a warm, generous impression tied to the comfort of home. Honey connects the fruit notes, cardamom adds brightness, and ginger and tangerine bring an energetic lift.
The heart changes the atmosphere through black tea, cappuccino and davana. The cappuccino accord introduces a milky coffee effect, while black tea and davana draw the fragrance into a darker and more mysterious phase.
Tonka bean, vanilla and cedarwood shape the return. Labdanum, cypriol, vetiver and patchouli add smoky, earthy and root like depth. Salmon describes the structure as a reflection of the opera: the perfume begins with security, travels far from it and returns with a deeper understanding of home.
Elsewhere joins Amouage’s Essences collection and follows its double infusion process. Amouage infuses the perfume concentrate for six months with sandalwood chips from Australian trees. The House also infuses the alcohol for six months inside custom oak barrels. The French artisanal firm Allary produces the barrels. Sandalwood and oakwood give the fragrance an additional patina that separates it from compositions that skip this process.
Desert inspired ridges cover the Essences flacon. From above, they form the twelve pointed Amouage emblem. A handmade medal beneath the bottle includes key fragrance information and a compass image. A pale blue label refers to ocean colors and the pull of home.
