L’Oréal Professionnel worked backstage at the Mugler Spring Summer 2027 show, where Head of Hair Louis Ghewy developed a series of otherworldly looks built around alien forms, aquatic references, club culture and the natural imagery associated with Thierry Mugler.
HAIR
The creative brief described an “Animal Kingdom on an acid trip,” giving Ghewy and his team a starting point outside conventional beauty. He imagined women who appeared to come from another place, with an almost nymph-like quality running through the hairstyles. The concept allowed the hair team to explore exaggerated proportions while maintaining movement throughout the lengths.
Raver girls provided one of the central references. Ghewy introduced extreme micro-fringes that created a sharp frame around the face. From there, the hair remained alive and visibly separated through the lengths. The loose sections recalled aquatic nymphs and created movement around the more controlled elements near the forehead and crown.
Mugler’s long association with extraterrestrial imagery also shaped the direction backstage. Ghewy exaggerated the silhouette of the head on selected models, creating forms that pushed beyond natural proportions. These sculpted shapes gave the models an alien-like appearance and brought another element of fantasy into the hair concept.
Nature supplied a further reference. Ghewy and Miguel looked toward Thierry Mugler’s fascination with animals, interpreting insects and unusual organic forms through the structure of the hairstyles. Alien heads, insect references, aquatic nymphs and club kids entered the same visual vocabulary. The team used those ideas to create characters that could belong equally to an imagined species or an underground nightlife environment.
Product performance played an important role in constructing the larger shapes. Ghewy relied on Tecni.Art Flex Pli by L’Oréal Professionnel, a product he has used for years when he needs hold. The team worked Flex Pli through the hair before blow-drying it with a brush.
They then applied Volume Dust at the roots to create additional structure and finished the hair with Infinium to secure the final form. For the most exaggerated silhouettes, the team used padding to increase volume and alter the shape of the head.
L’Oréal Professionnel also placed two tools and treatments in focus backstage. Absolut Repair Molecular Oil, a repairing bi-phase oil, uses patented molecular technology designed to repair the hair fibre. The formula nourishes and smooths the hair while providing up to 100 hours of shine. It also offers heat protection up to 230°C.
The team also worked with AirLight Pro, L’Oréal Professionnel’s infrared light hairdryer. Its patented infrared technology supports fast drying without excessive heat, while its high-speed motor propels heat and air at speeds of up to 60 metres per second. L’Oréal Professionnel developed the lightweight, ergonomically balanced dryer together with professional hairstylists.
For Mugler Spring Summer 2027, Ghewy treated hair as part of the show’s transformation of the human figure. Micro-fringes, separated lengths, enlarged head shapes and references drawn from aliens, insects and aquatic creatures gave the beauty direction its distinct character backstage.
