The appointment follows months of collaboration between Charli xcx and YSL Beauty across public appearances, red carpet moments, fashion events, and music video looks. The brand has supported her evolving beauty language through makeup that connects to her public image, from premiere glamour to fashion week appearances and the raw visual energy of the “Rock Music” video.
“It’s been really special to collaborate and evolve how I express myself through beauty with YSL Beauty in the past months. Hope you enjoy what we’re making,” Charli xcx said. The quote frames the partnership through process, experimentation, and image-building, three areas central to her career as an artist who moves between music, performance, fashion, and visual culture.
Juliette Ferret, GM of YSL Beauty, described Charli xcx as an artist who captures the current cultural mood with instinct and control. “YSL Beauty has always moved with the pulse of its time, with an instinct for the talents who capture culture as it happens. Charli xcx is one of those rare artists: instinctive, uncompromising, and radically herself. She pushes the boundaries of music, image and identity with the same edge and freedom that have always lived at the heart of YSL Beauty. As we launch a breakthrough innovation in makeup, the first-ever couture cushion foundation clutch in the US, Charli brings the exact energy of this moment: disruptive, desirable, and impossible to ignore.”
The campaign, directed by Renell Medrano, follows Charli xcx through four stages of “artistic becoming” inside a music venue. Skin Affair Soft Glow Cushion Foundation leads the campaign. YSL Beauty describes the product as its first couture cushion foundation clutch in the U.S. market, designed for a radiant finish and a lightweight feel. The foundation supports a lived-in glow, connecting the product to Charli’s relaxed makeup aesthetic. The campaign pairs the complexion launch with her signature smokey eye, creating a beauty look that feels direct, modern, and closely tied to her public image. Global Makeup Artist Sam Visser created the campaign makeup, building a look that connects runway-level technique with Charli’s instinctive approach to beauty.
