Abel introduces Double Scoop, a new Eau de Parfum that approaches vanilla from a sharper, more contemporary angle. Launched in June, the fragrance moves away from the expected sweetness of the note and places it inside a warmer, more textured composition. The result centers on indulgence, but treats it with restraint, giving vanilla a savory edge and a modern structure.
FRAGRANCES
Double Scoop draws from the feeling of hot days turning into balmy evenings, where ice cream becomes a ritual and scent lingers on warm skin. Abel describes the fragrance through images of rollerskating on urban beaches, youthful excitement and the pleasure of long summer hours. The mood feels nostalgic, yet the composition avoids a direct retro reading.

The fragrance opens with North African rosemary essential oil, which introduces an unexpected savory lift. Its slightly balsamic, herbaceous character gives the scent depth from the start and cuts through the softness usually linked to vanilla. Japanese toasted black sesame oil follows with nutty warmth, adding an umami-like richness and a subtle saltiness on skin.
At the heart, a butterscotch accord brings a smooth, melting sweetness. The base settles into a milky vanilla accord made with Madagascar vanilla absolute and a biotech vanillin molecule. This pairing gives the fragrance warmth while keeping it clean and contemporary. Double Scoop uses vanilla as its center, yet it builds the note through contrast, texture and a less predictable sense of pleasure.

“Double Scoop brings Abel’s distinctly contemporary DNA to a milky vanilla. Creamy and seductive, but never cloying,” says Abel founder Frances Shoemack. She describes the scent as a way to capture long, hazy days for an urban sophisticate, with posh ice cream and aperitivo hour spilling onto the street.
Shoemack founded Abel in Amsterdam in 2013 after leaving the wine trade. Working with Master Perfumer Isaac Sinclair and Dr Fanny Grau, she developed a collection of 100% natural perfumes that use master perfumery, biotechnology and low impact packaging. Abel positions its fragrances around natural ingredients, performance and sophistication, challenging the idea that natural perfume must feel simple or limited.
Double Scoop Eau de Parfum comes in 50ml and 6ml formats, priced at €180 and €35. The fragrance became available on June 18 through select global stockists and abelfragrance.com.
