D.S. & Durga enters a new olfactive category with Ain’t That Sweet, a gourmand fragrance launching on August 25, 2026. Created by D.S. & Durga co-founder and perfumer David Seth Moltz, the scent draws from his memories of New York in the early 2000s, connecting young love, city life and the excitement of arriving somewhere new with a distinctly sweet composition. Moltz approaches gourmand territory from the perspective of someone who initially resisted bakery-inspired fragrances, using that hesitation to shape a scent that feels rich without turning sweetness into its only defining quality.

FRAGRANCES

Date cake gives Ain’t That Sweet its central reference. D.S. & Durga imagines the fragrance through an intimate late-night scene: a note between lovers, a slice of dark, malty date cake and a glass of golden milk waiting on the kitchen counter for someone to return home. The idea links fragrance with the small rituals that become attached to people, places and specific periods of life.

David approached the fragrance with some hesitation toward the gourmand category. He explains that he initially resisted the idea of creating a bakery focused scent. Over time, he began asking how to make something sweet without pushing the composition too far. Date cake became the answer, drawing from a dessert he recalls encountering in Australia and describing through dark malt, vanilla, narcotic spice and warmth.

The composition opens with myrrh, sweets and Sri Lankan cinnamon, creating an immediate warmth with a resinous and spiced character. Date, praline and lily form the heart, bringing the dessert reference forward while adding a floral note to the sweetness. Condensed milk, bourbon vanilla and nutmeg form the base, giving the drydown its creamiest and richest elements.

After wearing it, the Beauty SCENE team found Ain’t That Sweet to be a perfect summer fragrance for anyone who loves sweet scents. Gourmands often suggest colder months through heavy vanilla, caramel and dense pastry notes, yet this composition feels connected to warm nights, skin and the lingering energy of the city after dark. The date and condensed milk provide recognizable sweetness, while cinnamon, nutmeg and myrrh keep the fragrance from reading simply as dessert.

That balance makes the scent particularly interesting for summer evenings. It has the warmth expected from a gourmand, though the overall impression feels sensual and intimate instead of excessively heavy. The sweetness stays present throughout, so anyone who actively seeks sugary, creamy fragrances will find plenty here. The darker quality of date and malt gives that sweetness additional character.

For gourmand lovers searching for something to wear before summer disappears, Ain’t That Sweet makes a persuasive case. It is warm, sweet and creamy, with enough spice and resinous depth to give the composition structure and keep the sweetness from feeling flat. The fragrance settles into a richer, softer character on skin, which makes it especially suited to late summer evenings. D.S. & Durga turns date cake into something intimate, comforting and sensual, with a character that should speak most directly to anyone who actively looks for sweetness in perfume.
