In collaboration with Focus Features, Heretic Parfum has unveiled Nosferatu Eau de Macabre, an immersive fragrance inspired by Robert Eggers’ reimagining of Nosferatu. Moving away from conventional vampire scents like blood or smoke, Heretic sought to encapsulate the eerie ambiance of Eggers’ gothic horror, creating a perfume that transports wearers to the chilling world of Count Orlok’s castle. Every note in this fragrance is crafted to evoke the tension and mystery, bringing the supernatural essence of Nosferatu to life in an entirely unexpected way.

The fragrance opens with a powerful note of petrichor, the earthy scent that fills the air after rainfall, setting the scene on a stormy night in the Carpathian Mountains. This grounding aroma, derived from the interaction of rain and soil, reflects the brooding, isolated atmosphere of Orlok’s world.

FRAGRANCES

In the heart of Nosferatu Eau de Macabre, subtle floral notes reveal themselves, inspired by the character of Ellen Hutter, the story’s tragic heroine. Hidden amidst craggy rocks and darkened spaces, delicate hints of lilac and violet emerge. These fleeting floral elements, mirror Ellen’s vulnerability. Heretic’s use of ionine, known as the “disappearing molecule,” gives the fragrance a ghostly effect, making these floral notes vanish and reappear like memories.

As the floral notes fade, a warm hint of ambergris emerges, bringing a subtle oceanic aroma that balances between the comfort of home and the intrigue of the unknown. With its rich, salty scent, ambergris adds a unique depth, capturing both a sense of familiarity and the magnetic pull of the vampire’s presence. This layered note grounds the fragrance, giving it an air of mystery that feels both close and far away.

Enhancing the haunting experience, oud adds a smoky, primal quality to the fragrance, capturing the sensual yet predatory nature of Count Orlok. This bold addition to the fragrance infuses the air with a lingering depth, reflecting the eerie beauty and tension that define Eggers’ vision of Nosferatu.
